2011 Illawarra Folk Festival Summer School – 12/13 January 2011

20 Youth Scholarships Available

Part of the 26th Illawarra Folk Festival to be held 13th - 16th January 2011, Slacky Flat, Bulli, NSW

The Illawarra Folk Festival is offering twenty youth scholarships to talented and enthusiastic young musicians (18 years and under) to attend the Illawarra Folk Festival Summer School.

The Illawarra Folk Festival Summer School gives musicians of all ages the opportunity to explore a broad range of musical traditions in an open and fun environment. The school provides a rare opportunity to learn from renowned icons. These include musicians of the folk music world such as Eric Bogle (pictured) who wrote the song “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda.”

“With over thirty sessions to choose from the program of the school is designed to cater to a broad range of musical interests including workshops on singing, songwriting, guitar, fiddle, banjo, Irish whistle, accordion and percussion” said Ann Lehmann co-ordinator of the Illawarra Folk Festival Summer School.

David De Santi, Artistic Director of the Illawarra Folk Festival says “The Illawarra Folk Summer School is a great opportunity to increase awareness of folk music traditions and provide opportunities for musicians of all ages to build on their skills”.

The Illawarra Folk Festival Summer School is held 10am-5pm on Jan 12 & 13, 2011 at the Northern Illawarra Uniting Church, Princes Hwy, Bulli, just across the road from the Illawarra Folk Festival.

Applications for the youth scholarships close November 30.
