FOLK FESTIVAL COMPETITION

As part of the 25th Illawarra Folk Festival 97.3 ABC Illawarra will give unsigned folk artists an opportunity to perform at an opening night festival concert.

We are inviting listeners who are residents of the Illawarra to upload, through ABC Contribute (see instructions below), a song that is in the Folk genre and is their own original work.

The key dates are:

• 1st November 2009 -competition opens to performers to submit entries
• 1st December 2009 - competition closes
• 14th December 2009 - winner of competition announced

How to enter the competition

You must be unsigned to any record label.

• Upload one original folk song.Click here to go to ABC Contribute
• Include brief bio and a photo.
• And please upload a performance video if you have one.

Criteria

Accessible to all residents of the coverage area of 97.3 ABC Illawarra, from Helensburgh to Ulludulla and across the Southern Highlands.

• The local government areas of Wollongong, Shellharbour, Kiama, Shoalhaven and Wingecarribee.
• Performance can be individual or group
• You must perform 3 pieces of your own original material.
• There will be no financial payment in this competition.
• If you are selected the Winner you must provide the winning entry plus two other original items (total of 3 items) to the Illawarra Folk Festival, prior to performing at Festival

Judging

• 97.3 ABC Illawarra and the Illawarra Folk Festival to judge the winning entry.
• Judges decision will be final.

Winner

• The Winner will perform on Thursday 14th Januray 2010, the opening night of the 25th Illawarra Folk Festival.
• The Winner will perform the three items that have been provided to and approved by the judges in audition.

Terms and Conditions

• As a condition of entry the ABC will have permission to use, for promotion and broadcast, the winning item, and additionally the ABC will own the copyright to the files of the photographs submitted, but not to the original shots.
• Photographs and audio will need to be appropriate for general viewing / listening, and multiple entries are allowed, however multiple winning is not.

Joining ABC Illawarra Contribute

At ABC Contribute, you can create your own profile, share photos and videos, write a blog and interact with other ABC Contribute members. You need to set up your own "Log In" by doing the following:

1. Go to http://www.abc.net.au/illawarra

2. Click on the link to "Contribute" in the yellow box at the bottom of the screen.

3. You'll now be on the ABC Contribute Home Page - click the 'join now' button

4. Follow the instruction for filling in membership details. Please note: your login name should not be your real name.

5. When you've filled everything in, and confirmed your registration, you'll receive an email that includes a link to follow in order to complete your registration process.

6. When you have confirmed your registration: Go back to the Illawarra Home Page: www.abc.net.au/illawarra and click on 'contribute' in the yellow box at the bottom of the screen.

7. You are now on the ABC Contribute Home page: click on Log In (in the top left hand corner of the screen), and log in using your newly registered user name and password.

Now that you are registered with ABC Contribute, we'd like to invite you to join the ABC Illawarra Group. This is where you will post your digital stories.

Each ABC regional radio station has its own 'group' in ABC Contribute.

1. Click on the link to Groups (the link is on the top navigation bar. 'Home' is on the left, and Groups is the 7th link to the right of that).

2. You then see the first of the Groups page. ABC Illawarra is on the second page. Click next page (the link is on the bottom right of the page).

3. When you see ABC Illawarra, click on it. The top left hand box is called Group Profile, and is says ABC Illawarra and has a link to 'Join This Group'. Click on 'Join This Group'.

Now that you are a member of the Group, it means that any photos, or videos, or blogs that you post, will all appear in the ABC Illawarra group

NOTE: Now that you have joined the Illawarra Group, it may make things easier if you now bookmark the Illawarra Contribute page.
