part of 2011 Illawarra Folk Week
an Illawarra Folk Festival Fringe Event

Illawarra Folk Week will be held from 11-19 November 2011 as part of the leadup to the 27th Illawarra Folk Festival to be held 12-15 January 2012.

One of the events is a FOLK & Acoustic Instrument EXPO at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music at Gleniffer brae on Saturday 19 November from Midday to 3pm.

It was held for the first time in 2010 with 10 displayers and over 50 instruments and lots of interested musicians!

Here's some of the fun from last year.

It's a chance for local folk and acoustic musicians to show and share their favourite, quirky, colourful, noisy, homemade or unique instruments to the world.

Hopefully it may encourage others to try the wide and diverse range of instruments used by folk and acoustic musicians for their musical craft and enjoyment.

There will be squeezeboxes of all types, stringed things of all varieties, all manner of things that you blow, bow, pluck, thrash, strum, plunk, press, pull and thump.

Special guests will be Christiaan Dolislager from Accordions n' Folk, who will be bringing 50 instruments and local violin / guitarmaker Roland Stefen.
